TOOLBOX session 4 V&A Musem

The museum series of surveys and related homework are very messy. I know what homework we need to complete while doing it. Of course, the first critique also helped me sort out to a large extent.

One thing I must mention is that when doing homework, it is a good practice to write down the check list first. It is necessary to know what content you have not completed and which ones have been completed. I will continue this practice in the future. When I know a homework in advance, write down what to do step by step.

Museum research

I was very troubled when I set the theme at the beginning. After I clicked on the homepage of the official website, I was confused. I didn’t know what theme I wanted to search for, and I didn’t know what keywords to search for. I opened seven or eight unrelated web pages for the purpose, such as Chinese and Japanese collections, porcelain, post-war art, etc. These are the topics I am more interested in. Many of these collections are of great interest to me, but I can’t find any connection among them. Until a word in the description of one of the exhibits caught my attention, psychedelic.

I typed psychedelic in my search, and many psychedelic graphic designs and posters from the 1960s came out. I was not very satisfied. Then I remembered that I had to do a brainstorm to find the entry point, just like me. Like a portfolio of college applications. Later, I developed more specific points, such as mermaid, poppies, mushrooms, etc., so I went to the V&A official website to search for these keywords. At first, I found a variety of collections, and then I found that I can further filter, such as choosing vase /pot, etc., will pop up a more three-dimensional collection, which I need to use in the silhouette. At this step, I thought of copying the reference link and putting it in the file, which also reduced a lot of trouble for my future work.

Museum collage

The next step to make the collage was relatively smooth, except that I saw the overall effect after finishing a picture, and found that there was one that was abrupt, so I re-edited it. After that, drawing the outline was relatively smooth, because it was just a preliminary attempt, and it didn’t need to be that way. Care about the effect of the last line up.

Shoreditch research

It’s also a time-consuming step when doing Shoreditch research. I found that it’s important to accumulate in advance, because I haven’t inquired about street art and it’s very inconvenient to find it. I searched one by one on the Internet to find the roughly relevant ones. For artists and paintings, I will also accumulate more relevant materials in my spare time, and accumulate for the topics I want to choose in the future, so that I can develop them more smoothly.
